KamPong Cham- "...and you were right when you read that 90% of the people are in the country. Phnom Penh is actually about the same size as St. George, and everyone else is in the ‘kites’ or the communities and little towns through out the country. A big reason is that when Pol Pot was in power he forced everyone out of the cities and into the country, so it’s just home for a lot of people now and all the younger generations go to Phnom Penh if they go to college and Sien Riep if they are look for a good job because that’s where the tourism is." "Everyone here (well where I am at least) lives in a house on stilts about 10ft off the ground at least, or they live in a shack house boat, those are way cool, but the stilt houses are kinda scary cause the floor is made out of bamboo and there is like 1 inch gaps between the shafts so they don’t really have to sweep anything, it just falls through to the floor, and Cambodians don’t weigh more then 150lbs so when I come around weighing in at 210lb the ladders and the bamboo bridges that go to their homes like to break haha. I’ve crossed so many bridges that look like they have came out of Indiana Jones it’s ridiculous haha and I’ve fell through 2 already (but I catch my self from falling to my death haha) and I have no idea how many I’ve broken! It’s pretty crazy out here haha but the people are amazing! They have nothing yet they are so nice that they will give what ever they have to you if you need it, they are great people just the same. "

Elder Miller harvesting rice in a rice paddy, complete with on-looking cow! Yep, this is how it is done in Cambodia!

Elder Miller and companion (s) traveling the water ways of Cambodia... "We found out that the family lives on an island... there are about 20 here. It is a 3 hour boat ride... well, a Khmer boat ride. It wouldn’t have taken 15 minutes in a ski boat, but of course we had to go all over the place and pick up people and bricks and ice and cows and what ever else they can fit on this little wooden boat. Well we finally get there and this is easily the most remote place that I have ever been. Well not only have these people probably never seen white people, they have never seen someone over 5 foot 5! So basically I had the whole village following me around haha. I had fun with it. I told every one that I was short for an American. They were pretty amazed that people get bigger then me haha."

"First off my house is a stinking fort! We have 8 foot walls and razor wire all around the top so it is pretty much impossible to get in, or so we thought... Yesterday I unlocked the gate and opened it ... just like any normal day and guess what I saw! A big white cow! Yea, a cow... She was eating the weeds and the grass, so we sat there for a minuet trying to figure out how the heck a cow got into our fort... Then our guard, his name is Darra, came around the corner and started laughing... It was his cow that he brought to eat all the weeds so he wouldn’t have to clean up the weeds himself and he thought we were pretty funny scratching our heads trying to figure out how a cow got over the fence... So we named her Betsy and last time I looked she was like 2 feet out side my window by my desk eating some crazy tree haha. So we have a cow... and Darra said I couldn’t ride it..."

Elder Miller and Pisset pose for a picture. Pisset wants to be a missionary when he grows up like Elder Miller! (We will definately need to get him a jacket that fits.)
"We hired a member named Dee Mong to come clean our house every other week haha. He's 17 and the most amazing kid ever! He goes with us like everyday finding and he's just flat out amazing, so is his little brother Pisset, he's 9... he and Dee Mong came over and I made him breakfast. I made an egg and cheese sandwich and a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich too haha! He's never eaten either one before haha! Now I got him hooked on peanutbutter haha... I love those kids!

Elder Miller taking a few to relax, playing tunes on his guitar... "Everyday is an adventure so I’m loving it... We just got back from Phnom Penh like 30 minuets ago. Elder Davis had a zone leader meeting. It was fun cause all the zone leader’s companions got to go and play in the city, and I got permission and bought a guitar! For $20. It’s a piece of junk but honestly it was the best one that I could find haha."..." Oh and you asked about my hammock. I have like 3, one is the one the army uses and it huge, water proof and pretty comfortable and I have 2 that I had members make, they are amazing! and huge! My favorite one is like 10+ feet long! I’ll have to get one and send it home..." "I love my hammock! I'm puting one up as soon as I get home, they are so chill haha.."

"... I dunno if I can handle going home and paying more then $1.50 for a full sit down meal... or paying over .15 cents for a bottle of water... I heard a story about one of the elders that went home already, he couldnt believe the prices in America so he barderd for every thing, (cause that is how you buy stuff here, you barder for every little thing) and the biggest thing this elder was able to get is the employees discount at Subway haha. "

"...Oh my bike is awesome! haha It’s spray painted lime green and yellow and red and all kinds of colors haha, so you will get a picture of that for sure."..."Well I made another addition to my bike! It now has a royal blue back fender... haha Yeah I don't know why they didn't put another black one on it but oh well... It's definitely pretty colorful! (blue, yellow, green, orange, red....) and I'm not really worried about anyone stealing it! haha"

"...last Thursday we had a fireside and we played some games in the middle (if we don’t people get bored) and one thing we did was the 'hokey pokey'... Yeah we did the hokey pokey with members from 2 yrs old to 60 yrs old... and they loved it! I still don’t understand... I hated it ever since I was like 5 and the other day I saw the District President, a 50 year old man shakin himself about and having the time of his life! I just don’t understand it at all!haha So now it is a huge hit that is sweeping the country, and no I am not over exaggerating, someone translated the "Moccaraina" like 3 months ago and now it is easily the most overplayed song I have ever heard. I’ve seen and 80yr old man do the Moccaraina haha and now the hokey pokey is takin off too! I swear I’ve written the words down for like 20 people in the last 3 days haha. Only in Cambodia..."

Necessity is the mother of creativity!
What can you say? I think this speaks for itself! WOW!

"Well you’re right, the language is coming... I’m starting to get my "Khmer voice" so the Cambodians are starting to understand me easier and I’m starting to get complements, finally! " ...." In the last couple of days after Davis left I found that I have to speak more, but the other day the coolest thing happened! We found a kid and were talking to him, then we found out that he is learning English so we started talking to him in English and he spoke really well, but I asked him a question with some biggish words in it that he didn’t understand so he asked me to speak Khmer cause he could understand me better! haha that was the highlight of my week! That felt so good!"

"I wish I would have had a skid loader yesterday! We had service and basically we were moving dirt 10 feet... with a shovel made out of sheet metal, (it broke very fast) and three hoes and 3 baskets! Pretty much the worst way to do it ever! And the funny part is that since we are Americans people don’t think we know how to do anything... at all! Even something as easy as shoveling haha. They think that we just sit back and lay on all our money there in the states. So they were pretty impressed when I basically did the whole things with a worthless shovel before they got 10 baskets moved haha. I never though I would say this, but it felt good to shovel dirt around again and work my butt off in the dirt haha. It brought back memories... "

"Last week we ran around an old Buddhist temple and played with monkeys haha. I have some pictures of that in the package I’m sending." (Sorry this is all the detail Elder Miller gave for the next few pictures, but I'm sure you can see for yourself that Cambodia has some amazing sites!)

(Looks really cool, I wonder where and what this is?)

"SIT!" - Elder Miller teaches an old dog a new trick! (Once a dog trainer always a dog trainer, even in Cambodia!)

(Elder Miller is in Cambodia to help the Cambodian people... I'm not sure this will count for service hours.)

(How does he do that?)

"The work is going great... For me anyway haha. I’m learning so much! And I can see myself growing, even though the teaching is slow I’m glad that I’m here and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!" ... "A recent quote I had was, "Some missionaries build areas, some areas build missionaries, but all missions build men". Yeah I like that one..."
